Originally entitled 'Idun and Brage", the painting portrays Idun, the goddess of ever rejuvenating apples & fruit. She is seen here with her husband Bragi, who according to legend was once a historical, ninth-century (mortal-human) poet named Bragi Boddason. According to legend, his poems and songs were so outstanding that Odin appointed him to Asgard to be the court poet and mistrel of Valhalla, where he eventually meets the goddess Idun and becomes her husband.
The original was painted in 1846 by Nils Blommer and the original is now part of the collection at the Malmo Art Museum in Malmo, Sweden.
